Highwic offers a glimpse of life for a large, well-to-do family at a time when colonial New Zealand was becoming firmly established. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of Newmarket with a picnic in the peaceful grounds or explore one of New Zealand's finest Carpenter Gothic homes. Enjoy the magic of Highwic, only 10 mins drive from the Centre of Auckland.
Built in 1862 by successful businessman and landowner Alfred Buckland, Highwic was home to Alfred's 21 children. Today the house is furnished with a wonderful selection of antiques, with a hectare of beautiful gardens where visitors can still enjoy croquet and a quiet stroll - including the romantic Lover's Walk.
Located in the heart of Newmarket - Auckland's premier shopping district - Highwic was built from an American house pattern based on country homes on the East Coast of the United States, and provides a refined haven of peace and beauty for visitors. Highwic is available for hire as a venue for functions and conferences.
Open Wed-Sun, 10am-4.30pm.
