About Matakana Coast

Less than an hour north of Auckland, the Matakana Coast stretches along river valleys and a stunning coastline from Puhoi in the south to Pakiri in the north. The beaches of Leigh, Omaha and Pakiri along the Matakana Coast are perfect stretches of sand to relax on. Take a walk along the wide sandy beaches, check out the rockpools and lie in the sand dunes. If you like to be surrounded by an abundance of aquatic life, the Goat Island Marine Reserve, on the northeastern coast near Leigh, will have your eyes darting in all directions.
