The Coromandel Peninsula Regional Information
The Coromandel Peninsula has a fascinating history of Maori settlement, logging and mining. There are tranquil harbours on the western coast and big surf beaches on the east. The Coromandel Forest Park, covering a sprawling 73,000 hectares of the peninsula, is interwoven with hiking tracks, scenic attractions and nothing but nature.
What also makes the Coromandel Peninsula special is its close proximity to the cities of Hamilton, Tauranga and Auckland, which means it is a stress-relieving playground for city slickers looking for respite from the concrete jungle. more
