Lake Taupo & Ruapehu Regional Information
Bisected by the world's longest and most active fault line, the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Lake Taupo and Ruapehu region features many volcanoes. Most of them are extinct, but the largest of them all, Mt Ruapehu (2797m), and its nearby siblings Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro, are still active.
A region of vast contrasts - from beautiful nature at its finest, to bleak, uninhabited landscape - the Lake Taupo and Ruapehu region shows the charm that only the central North Island can offer.
The region is also blessed with incredible landscapes and natural beauty thanks to the enormous tracts of land that have been preserved here for national parks. more
