1. New Zealand's Natural Wonders - Finalists
Think Auckland's volcanoes, the tuatara, Hanmer Springs, Mount Tarawera, White Island, Fiordland National Park, the glaciers, Tiri Tiri Matangi, the kiwi, waterfalls and kauri forests. These are all commonly photographed attractions but the challenge was thrown down to provide a different perspective of these natural wonders. The shots were still required to be suitable for commercial purposes, but maybe from an angle rarely seen, or perhaps a natural wonder that doesn't receive the attention it deserves.
2. A Quintessential Kiwi Holiday - Finalists
Think good old-fashioned Kiwi camping, hotel-hopping, road-tripping, truck stops, the bach experience, toilet stops, fly/drive holidays, travelling the strait, airports and girly weekends away. This category has endless scope and really calls out to the creative photographer. Imagination was unleashed as the search was on to find a snap that screamed "pure New Zealand".
3. Kiwis and their Cars - Finalists
This category was all about cars and how they form part of our everyday lives; those wonderful Kiwi motoring moments. It's pilling up your friends into your van for a road trip, taking the dog for a spin, getting underneath the bonnet, shifting the impossible or learning to drive.
4. New Zealand Landmarks - Finalists
Think Auckland's Sky Tower, The Bridge to Nowhere, Hot Water Beach, The Pinnacles, Ohakune's giant carrot, Hundertwasser Toilets, Mount Taranaki, Moeraki Boulders, Dunedin's Railway Station, The Beehive, New Plymouth's Coastal Walkway and the Lighthouse at Cape Reinga. Once again, we were looking for these landmarks, able to be photographed at any time of the day, to be done so from a different perspective.
5. New Zealand People and Culture - Finalists
Think Kiwi events, family BBQs, special moments, taking the dog for a walk, stopping for takeaways, farming and shopping. There's plenty of opportunity to capture people enjoying their favourite beach activity; from cricket to surfing or fishing. You showed us a bunch of happy Kiwis enjoying all this country has to offer, which left us smiling too.
