Road Trip Survival Kit
Pack up the car, check the tyres, grab the kids and head for the hills/hit the road.
Nothing beats a good old Kiwi roadie - and with a lifetime of gravel roads, backstreets and untamed scenery to explore, there's no reason not to!
To help you on your way we've compiled a short-but-sweet survival guide for your next Great Kiwi Road Trip.
01 Snack Attack
Science has proven that driving in the car for long periods of time causes extreme hunger which can only be abated by filling up often on snacks. Run the gamut of taste sensations from sweet and sour lollies to salty almonds. Fuel your own tank!
02 Sweet Shades
Sure your stunner shades have a purpose: to protect your eyes from the sun. But their undercover use might just save you from a jabbering, overly-caffeinated mate. Simply slip them on and feign sleep. It works a treat.
03 A Mix Tape
Right, most people don't have a tape player in their cars anymore, but a mixed CD or ipod playlist put together especially for the road makes the time pass faster. Sing along, dance in your seat, just have fun. There's something magical about pairing music with hyper travellers!
04 A Trusty Road Map
Sure, it's a no brainer. You're on a road trip, you need a map. Do your research before you leave and plot out a course, or play it all by ear and trust your adventuresome spirit. No matter how you roll, stop into your local AA Centre and grab a map - just in case.
05 A Digital Camera
Recording family memories (AKA incriminating evidence) is a must. There's no better way of combating the 'No way! I didn't.' than actually showing someone the proof on film. Ahem yes, yes you did. In this digital age, there's no such thing as "What goes on tour, stays on tour", so make sure you pack a camera to snap those incriminating holiday moments!
