New Zealand is fortunate enough to have a wide variety of accommodation options to choose from. Whatever standard you seek, there is a price and quality to suit your needs. Accommodation is available in abundance at the major tourist locations, but also scattered around off-the-beaten-track places - wherever you go, accommodation is never too far away. One thing to note about accommodation in Arthur's Pass is that you should be sure to book early for peak holiday times, for instance over the Christmas holidays and long weekends. During these times accommodation is often booked out well in advance.

Arthur's Pass is not only the juncture where an historic highway and railway connect Canterbury and the West Coast, it's a beautiful mountainous national park where hikers, mountain-climbers and nature-lovers converge. With many peaks over 2000m, the mountain ranges have been popular with mountaineers since the late 19th century.

The small, friendly Arthur's Pass village - New Zealand's highest town - is a stop on the scenic TranzAlpine train journey between Christchurch and Greymouth.

Many great walks start near the village, including the Bealey Valley, Bridal Veil Walk, Devil's Punchbowl Falls, and the Dobson Nature Walk, and there are various tracks in the nearby Craigieburn Forest Park.

Other activities in Arthur's Pass National Park include camping, tramping, bird watching and hunting. Visitors are advised to check weather and track conditions at the information centre before beginning a walk or tramp. If you are planning a longer journey then please advise somebody of your intentions.

The village takes care of accommodation and dining needs of travellers, hikers and mountaineers. Choose from hotel, self-catering motels with backpacker and budget bunkhouse accommodation, or a youth hostel. Pet friendly accommodation is available by arrangement.
