If you come to Christchurch looking for fun, excitement or a dose of adrenalin, you certainly won't leave disappointed. There's bound to be aquatic, family or thrilling activities either here or not too far away, from marine mammal encounters and eco-tourism adventures to cruises and jet-boat rides. New Zealand is the 'Adventure Capital of the World', so adrenalin-pumping action is found all over the country. Jet boating and white-water rafting are exhilarating ways to check out the country's crystal-clear rivers and magic scenery. If you would rather stay dry then there's a myriad of land and air-based activities on offer too. The brave can try bungy jumping, the slightly less courageous can enjoy a tandem hang-glide or parapent, or for the ultimate thrill there is the free-fall skydive. Plus, abseiling or exploring the captivating cave systems that riddle both the North and South Islands should definitely be on your to-do list.

Known as the Garden City, Christchurch offers a superb balance between the historic and the
contemporary - where early settlers' architecture lends a surreal charm to a thriving, exciting,
bustling city. Christchurch is best characterised as a place with colour, atmosphere and
world-class attractions such as the Christchurch Gondola, the unique International Antarctic Centre,
and the brand new Christchurch Art Gallery - a testament to the creative and cultural foundations
upon which it rests. All of this is set against the backdrop of Hagley Park, more than 150 hectares
(395 acres) of beautiful inner-city parkland. It is a relaxed lifestyle - the shopping is
excellent and restaurants provide a multi-ethnic culinary mix topped off with a uniquely New Zealand
flavour. From great-tasting food to festivals, Christchurch and the surrounding Canterbury region
provide a number of unique events and festivals - the Festival of Romance, the International Buskers
Festival, Showtime Canterbury, and the Winter Carnival to name a few. Most of the city's attractions
are accessible by foot or tram. With this level of activity it is probably no surprise that
Christchurch is a sought-after conference and convention venue. It is home to one of New Zealand's
finest purpose-built conference centres, the Christchurch Convention Centre, which is linked by
airbridge to the city's main performing arts centre, the Christchurch Town Hall. The convention
centre can cater for gatherings from 10 to 2500 people, and there is a superb range of accommodation
within walking distance.
