If you're visiting Coromandel, your first stop should be the information centre. This will enable you to pick up all the information that you need to get the most out of your trip. i-SITES are New Zealand's official visitor centres, and there are over 80 of them throughout the country. Aside from i-SITES, there are also information centres in most towns and even in small settlements. The friendly staff at the information centres can help you find accommodation, plan tours and activities, and give you that local insight that makes all the difference. Most bookings can be made here for you, and you can pick up maps and brochures to help you plan your visit. These centres also sometimes have souvenirs for sale and internet access.

Once a gold-mining and timber town, Coromandel township has many heritage buildings and is a haven
for conservationists, craftspeople and artists, as well as a popular destination for boaties. The
mussel and oyster farms and many small islands are popular for sightseeing and fishing charters.
Several multisport events, including the triathlon Moehau Man, start in Coromandel. There are a
variety of restaurants and cafes. At local bays, swimming and picnicking are pleasant pursuits as is
fishing on the rocky shoreline. Make sure you visit the narrow gauge railway when in Coromandel, as
well as the pottery on the same site. The historic pub is worth a visit, as they specialise in
fishing trips!
