Our 14 national parks are perfect for tramping, where spectacular scenery abounds. Our geothermal hotspots provide natural thermal pools, shooting geysers and bubbling mud pools, while our incredible wildlife is a must-see for animal lovers. There are plenty of picturesque beaches for swimming, surfing or relaxing, mountain ranges for skiing and snowboarding, glassy lakes for fishing and water sports, and native forests for exploring. Try delicious gourmet delights, visit an art or craft studio, go shopping, check out a Maori cultural performance or take advantage of our exciting range of events. And that's just the beginning!

On the Heretaunga Plains, Hastings is the centre of a large fruit and grape growing and processing
industry. Influenced by Spanish Mission and art deco architecture following the 1931 earthquake, it
has pleasant parks including Cornwall Park (with its gardens, aviary and display house and authentic
Chinese garden) and Frimley Park, which has rose gardens, trees and a picnic area. Leisure
activities include trout fishing, jet boating, white-water rafting and horse trekking. The Cape
Kidnappers Gannet Sanctuary is nearby, with spectacular views of the region from Te Mata Peak. In
addition to the annual wine and food festival in the first weekend of February, there is the
Matariki Festival in winter and the Spring Blossom Festival in September. Hastings is home to Splash
Planet, a water theme park experience that is unbeatable. The Rush Munro ice cream gardens are open
seven days - they are well worth a tour. Visit the Farmer's Market open every Sunday at the Hastings
Showgrounds 8.30am-12.30pm.
