Havelock is known as the Greenshell Mussel capital of the world and is sited at the head of the
beautiful Pelorus Sound. It is a tourist and supply town well worth a stop for a walk around and a
taste of the world famous greenshell mussel. From the nearby marina, launches and water taxis depart
to away-from-it-all locations or favourite fishing spots. Sea kayaking trips depart from here also.
Historical attractions include a pioneer cottage and museum, and a gold strike at the nearby
Wakamarina River. Gold-panning equipment may be hired at Canvastown. Both sea and freshwater fishing
are popular attractions along with sea kayaking. The winding scenic road to Picton is well worth
exploring, as are Cullens Point Lookout and Walkway and Mount Richmond Forest Park.
