Havelock is known as the Greenshell Mussel Capital of the World© and is sited at the head of the beautiful Pelorus Sound. It is a tourist and supply town well worth a stop for a walk around and a taste of the world famous Greenshell mussel. From the nearby marina, launches and water taxis depart to away-from-it-all locations or favourite fishing spots. Sea kayaking trips depart from here also. Historical attractions include a pioneer cottage and museum, and a gold strike site at the nearby Wakamarina River. Gold-panning equipment may be hired at Canvastown. Both sea and freshwater fishing are popular attractions along with sea kayaking. The winding scenic road to Picton is well worth a journey, as are Cullens Point Lookout and Walkway and Mount Richmond Forest Park.
