Hokitika Motels (Self-Contained) - Accommodation. If you are looking for comprehensive travel information for Hokitika Motels (Self-Contained) including Motel and Motor Lodge, you will find it here on AA Travel.
Motel accommodation is great for independent travellers. If you like to have the option of cooking your own meals, doing your own laundry and having the essential comforts of a home while staying in Hokitika, motels are the best form of accommodation. There is a huge variety of motels all around the country, from the top of the North Island to Stewart Island, and a range of prices to suit most budgets. You'll find motels in main cities, along main travelling routes and near popular tourist attractions, as well as in off-the-beaten-track scenic locations. Most motel units have self-catering facilities with fully equipped kitchens. They also have a phone, TV, tea and coffee-making facilities and a private bathroom. They have made-up beds with all bedding supplied, and car parking. Breakfast (at an additional cost) can usually be ordered the previous night for delivery to the unit if required.
Hokitiki is a crafty town and a wonderful place to buy pounamu (jade). It is also the only known place in the world where the Ruby Rock (Goodletite) is found.
The Arahura River, which enters the sea eight kilometres north of Hokitika, is a traditional source of pounamu and still yields a large proportion of the Coast's continuing supply. Several shops in Hokitika sell expertly crafted pounamu jewellery and sculptures.
No visit to Hokitika is complete without a walk along the wild and driftwood-strewn Hokitika Beach where you can feel the power of the Tasman Sea. Following rainfall, try fossicking for pieces of pounamu that have been washed up on the beach. Hokitika Beach is also a great place to take in a magnificent West Coast sunset.
Hokitika is the last town with banking and pharmacy facilities until Wanaka. Visit the i-SITE for more information.
Choose your accommodation from hotels and self-catering motels, bed & breakfasts, holiday parks with budget accommodation, campervan and campsites. Some accommodation is beachfront, and it is possible to find a pet friendly establishment, if you ask when booking.
