New Zealand Kaikoura Nightlife - What to See & Do. If you are looking for comprehensive travel information for Kaikoura Nightlife including Bar and Live Entertainment, you will find it here on AA Travel.
With a wide range of nightclubs, restaurants, bars, live music and theatre, our country’s nightlife offers something for most age groups (the legal drinking age is 18). Live bands are popular with younger pub-goers and jazz venues attract a more mature audience. Nightclubs vary in music genres, and the diversity of quality live theatre ensures all interests are catered for. If you enjoy a punt or two, then try your luck at a casino, where you'll find a range of gaming tables and machines (20 is the minimum age for entry). If you’re a smoker, then please note that there is a smoking ban inside all restaurants, casinos, pubs, bars and nightclubs, although provision is made outside of these establishments for smokers.
Kaikoura: Kaikoura is world-renowned as the whale-watching centre of New Zealand, with tours available both by boat and air to view the giant sperm whales, dolphins, fur seals and royal albatrosses. With wetsuits provided, visitors can swim with pods of dusky dolphins, come face-to-face with fur seals, or scuba dive. On land, activities include 4WD motorbiking, horse trekking, Maori culture tours, skiing at Mount Lyford just one hour away, farm tours, bird watching and cave tours.
Of particular note is a survivor of Kaikoura’s whaling days – Fyffe House – built in the 1850s. It is the town’s oldest building and is now owned by the Historic Places Trust. Open five days a week May-October and seven days November-April. It is en route to the seal colony. Local arts and crafts galleries display a high standard of creativity and design by Kaikoura artists.
