Here is the West Coast gateway to the vast Kahurangi National Park and the start of the Heaphy
Track, as well as the Wangapeka and Karamea-Leslie Tramping Tracks. Activities include kayaking,
white-water rafting, heli-rafting (the Karamea River is grade 5) surfcasting, superb trout fishing,
golf and exploring the Oparara Basin's limestone arches and caves or the gold-mining heritage of the
Fenian. 15km of old logging roads have recently been opened in the Oparara Basin for mountain biking
and walking enthusiasts. Charter helicopters will take you to the Heaphy or Wangapeka Tracks to
begin your walk.
