i-SITES are New
Zealand's official visitor centres, and there are over 80 of them
throughout the country. Aside from i-SITES, there are also information

maps and brochures to help you plan your visit. These centres also
sometimes have souvenirs for sale and internet access.
Mount Cook: Mt Cook Village is perfectly positioned to take advantage of some of the most stunning scenery in Australasia. For those who are bold enough to foray further up the mountainscape, the Department of Conservation Visitor Centre offers a full range of information and advice. Within the Mackenzie Basin lies Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park with 140 peaks over 2000m high. This includes Australasia's highest mountain, Aoraki/Mount Cook, at 3754m. The Mackenzie is also home to the Tasman Glacier, the longest in the southern hemisphere. Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park covers over 70,000ha of breathtaking alpine scenery, preserved in its natural state for visitors to enjoy. Tussock grassland, huge river valleys, endless high country, stunning turquoise blue lakes and awe-inspiring mountains surround the Mackenzie Basin. The Park can be viewed by walks, tramps (guides are available) or by skiplanes and helicopters. Climbing, thar (goat-like mammal) hunting, glacier trips, guided nature walks, 4WD safaris and glacier skiing are other options. The world's highest freshwater salmon farm is located nearby - take a self guided farm tour and feed the fish.
