Napier Information & Services - What to See & Do. If you are looking for comprehensive travel information for Napier Information & Services including General, I-SITE/Visitor Info Centre and Petrol/Gas Stations, you will find it here on AA Travel.
If
you're visiting Napier, your first stop should be the
information centre. This will enable you to pick up all the information
that you need to get the most out of your trip.
i-SITES are New
Zealand's official visitor centres, and there are over 80 of them
throughout the country. Aside from i-SITES, there are also information
centres in most towns and even in small settlements.
The friendly
staff at the information centres can help you find accommodation, plan
tours and activities, and give you that local insight that makes all the
difference. Most bookings can be made here for you, and you can pick up
maps and brochures to help you plan your visit. These centres also
sometimes have souvenirs for sale and internet access.
Napier is Hawke's Bay's port and New Zealand's art deco city, which was rebuilt in this style in the
1930s after a devastating earthquake. The city is proud of its art deco buildings. Visit the museum
to appreciate the architecture of Napier's art deco heritage. There are guided walking and driving
tours and an Art Deco Weekend is held on the third weekend in February. Events include private house
tours, an antique fair, cafe crawl, jazz and vintage cars. The surrounding horticultural and
winemaking region is a fertile market gardening area, while further out the rolling country is used
for sheep farming. The annual Harvest Hawke's Bay wine and food festival is held in the first
weekend of February every year. The Heritage Trails can also be walked or driven. Other features of
the city include the botanic gardens, the sunken garden, Tiffen Park, and the Kennedy Park rose
gardens. Napier also boasts an Art and Craft Trail and Antique Trail. Swim with dolphins and visit
the National Aquarium of New Zealand and the Ocean Spa pool complex, both on Marine Parade. Possum
World is a unique experience, as is dining at Mussel Boys.
