If you enjoy a punt or two, then try your luck at a casino, where you'll find a range of gaming tables and machines (20 is the minimum age for entry). If you’re a smoker, then please note that there is a smoking ban inside all restaurants, casinos, pubs, bars and nightclubs, although provision is made outside of these establishments for smokers.
Napier: Napier is Hawke’s Bay’s port and New Zealand's art deco city, which was rebuilt in this style in the 1930s after a devastating earthquake. The city is proud of its art deco buildings. Visit the museum to appreciate the architecture of Napier’s art deco heritage. There are guided walking and driving tours and an Art Deco Weekend is held on the third weekend in February. Events include private house tours, an antique fair, café crawl, jazz and vintage cars. The surrounding horticultural and winemaking region is a fertile market gardening area, while further out the rolling country is used for sheep farming. The annual Harvest Hawke’s Bay wine and food festival is held in the first weekend of February every year. The Heritage Trails can also be walked or driven. Other features of the city include the botanic gardens, the sunken garden, Tiffen Park, and the Kennedy Park rose gardens. Napier also boasts an Art and Craft Trail and Antique Trail. Swim with dolphins and visit the National Aquarium of New Zealand and the Ocean Spa pool complex, both on Marine Parade. Possum World is a unique experience, as is dining at Mussel Boys.
