Omarama is situated south of the majestic Mt Cook and north of vibrant Queenstown, with the incredible Lindis Pass in between. Featuring powerful thermal currents, Omarama has perfect conditions for gliding, and some of New Zealand's most beautiful terrain to match. You can admire the majestic Southern Alps from 10,000 feet in the air, a view you don't want to miss! Glide over scenery from the Lord of the Rings, and you can even see Aoraki/Mt Cook on a clear day. Fly-fishers will love the excellent trout fishing here, and bird-watchers will be impressed with views of the black stilt that has been saved from extinction. Soaking in a relaxing hot pool, going horse riding, golfing or bike riding, visiting a vineyard or driving 45 minutes to Ohau ski field in winter are other options here. Omarama's giant fluted Clay Cliffs are rated one of New Zealand's best-kept natural secrets, and are a sight to behold. For a true Kiwi experience, the tussock farmland produces world-class merino wool, and you can see the sheep being shorn every day at the Wrinkly Rams.
