If you're visiting Paihia, your first stop should be the information centre. Known as the Jewel of the Bay of Islands, Paihia was the site of New Zealand's first church, made of
reeds. Its stone replacement, the Church of St Paul, is still used for worship. A ferry links Paihia
with Russell, and Waitangi is just a 25-minute walk. Leisure activities both in the town and its
surrounds are diving, water skiing, fishing, sky diving, golf and cruising.
