There is a huge variety of motels all around the country, from the top of the North Island to Stewart Island, and a range of prices to suit most budgets. They have made-up beds with all bedding supplied, and car parking. Breakfast (at an additional cost) can usually be ordered the previous night for delivery to the unit if required.

Situated about halfway between Christchurch and Ashburton, Rakaia is renowned for the Rakaia River and the salmon that inhabit its clear waters. The Rakaia River is one of the world's best examples of a braided river. It is fantastic to see at any time of the year, but particularly exciting during spring when snow-melt adds to the flow.

The township is home to one of the longest bridges in New Zealand - just less than 1.8 kilometres.

The local domain on the western edge of town has an attractive, landscaped picnic area and a children's playground.

Self-catering motels and apartments, a bed & breakfast and holiday parks with budget accommodation, campervan and campsites. Pet friendly accommodation is available by arrangement.
