i-SITES are New
Zealand's official visitor centres, and there are over 80 of them

Russell: Steeped in early European history, Russell was once known as 'The hell hole of the Pacific'. Russell's tourist attractions include Christ Church, the oldest surviving church in New Zealand. Flagstaff Hill offers spectacular panoramic views of the town and the Bay of Islands. Ferries run regularly to Paihia and Waitangi, and a car ferry links Russell to Opua. Cruises around the bay also depart from the wharf. Big game and light tackle fishing are popular, as is cruising, jet-boating and windsurfing.
