Taihape Eat and Drink - What to See & Do. If you are looking for comprehensive travel information for Taihape Eat and Drink, you will find it here on AA Travel.

Eating out can be one of the highlights of a holiday in Taihape. You can expect to find wonderful examples of edible excellence throughout the country, and the high standard of food offered by cafes and restaurants can be attributed to an unlimited supply of fresh, quality ingredients. The cuisine style known as Pacific Rim is New Zealand's point of difference. Pacific Rim blends the flavours of South East Asia, the Pacific and Japan. Seafood, the traditional Maori hangi (an earth oven), fresh fruit and locally produced venison and beef are just a selection of the must-try cuisine on offer. Combine this with world-class locally made wines and you have a memorable dining experience.

Taihape is a popular stop on State Highway 1, about one hour from the ski fields of Mt Ruapehu. The town has a variety of cafes and shops, plus pleasant picnic spots as well as a playground. Internationally recognised as the Gumboot Capital of New Zealand, a permanent gumboot-throwing lane operates on selected days. ‘Gumboot Day’ is usually celebrated once a year in March. The Information Centre has a 7-day-a-week booking service for ferries, trains and coaches and information about activities including bungy jumping, (the highest in the North Island), the Flying Fox, rafting, fishing, hunting and heritage tours. Visit the sheepskin and wool shop at Utiku, 5 minutes south of Taihape, and experience a unique country store.
