If
you're visiting Taupo, your first stop should be the
information centre. This will enable you to pick up all the information
that you need to get the most out of your trip.
i-SITES are New
Zealand's official visitor centres, and there are over 80 of them
throughout the country. Aside from i-SITES, there are also information
centres in most towns and even in small settlements.
The friendly
staff at the information centres can help you find accommodation, plan
tours and activities, and give you that local insight that makes all the

Taupo is situated at the outflow of the Waikato River from Lake Taupo. The approach from Wairakei
offers spectacular views over the town, lake and distant mountains, and there are pleasant lakeside
walks. The lake, the Waikato, Tongariro and Waitahanui Rivers and the many streams that flow into
the lake, provide excellent fishing opportunities. The quick-draining volcanic soil means that rain
hardly ever spoils play on Taupo's five golf courses. Surrounding the lake's eastern shores are
numerous delightful small settlements and scenic locales. Adventure or outdoor enthusiasts will
never be bored! Activities include skydiving, jet boating, bungy jumping, a fun theme park, a ropes
course, quad biking, to name just a few. For those visitors looking for more relaxing pursuits,
there are great shops for retail therapy, museums to visit, and a wide range of dining options.
