New Zealand Thames Arts & Crafts - What to See & Do. If you are looking for comprehensive travel information for Thames Arts & Crafts including Sculptures/Greenstone carving, you will find it here on AA Travel.
Quirky and creative arts and crafts can be found in Thames and throughout the country. Art is very much a part of our Kiwi culture. All of the metropolitan centres around the country have exciting public art galleries and exhibitions, as well as dealer galleries. Many regions have high concentrations of painters, craftspeople, sculptors, photographers, printers and carvers – perhaps because of the inspiring landscapes. But don’t limit yourself to just these locations; many superb pieces can be found all over the country.
Thames: Thames is the largest town on the Coromandel Peninsula and is filled with gold-mining history. At the height of the gold boom in the 1880s, it was larger in population than Auckland, and a number of buildings survive from that era. Nearby Kauaeranga Valley offers extensive walking tracks. Activities include visiting a tropical butterfly and orchid garden, scenic flights, canyoning, gold mine and soap factory tours, golf, tennis, bowls, croquet, fishing and swimming. Local art, crafts and pottery abound, and there are some excellent dining spots. Thames runs a market in the main street every Saturday morning.
