New Zealand Thames Backpackers - Accommodation. If you are looking for comprehensive travel information for Thames Backpackers including Backpackers/Hostel, you will find it here on AA Travel.
Taking advantage of
Thames's backpacker options is a great way to socialise
before moving on and exploring the entire country on a budget. Backpacker
accommodation is friendly, communal and reliable. They are places where,
usually, young travellers congregate and often make friends with people
of different nationalities. It's the most fun way to discover everything
this country has to offer and meet like-minded travellers. New Zealand
backpacker accommodation is considered to be of a consistently high
quality. Most backpacker accommodation throughout the country offers a
mixture of shared rooms (dormitories), as well as single, twin or double
rooms for a higher (but still relatively cheap) cost. The facilities
usually consist of a communal kitchen and bathroom, and a coin-operated
laundry, although this does vary - many also have internet access, bars
and TV lounges. Long-term rates are usually offered for those planning to
stay awhile.
Thames: Only 1.5hours from Auckland International Airport, Thames could be a stop over on the first or last day of your holiday in New Zealand. Built on the pioneering industries of gold mining and kauri logging, the town of Thames has an appealing, historic main street. In the late 19th century, it was one of New Zealand's largest population centres, and was even considered as a site for the capital. History is still alive in the hotels, buildings and museums of the area. Thames has two museums - the Thames Historical Museum and the School of Mines. The Thames market is held every Saturday morning; shop for arts, crafts and fresh produce. There are many wonderful walks and hiking tracks in the Kauaeranga Valley and the Karangahake Gorge has several walking tracks that are easy and flat. Accommodation is plentiful in Thames and its surrounding area, and covers a variety of options including a historic hotel with on-site dining and casino. Self-catering motels and lodges, luxury bed & breakfast, holiday parks and motor camps with campsites, and some with budget backpacker accommodation. Pet friendly accommodation is available in Thames by arrangement. Some establishments offer seasonal discount.
