Timaru Information & Services - What to See & Do. If you are looking for comprehensive travel information for Timaru Information & Services including General and Petrol/Gas Stations, you will find it here on AA Travel.

If you're visiting Timaru, your first stop should be the information centre. This will enable you to pick up all the information that you need to get the most out of your trip. i-SITES are New Zealand's official visitor centres, and there are over 80 of them throughout the country. Aside from i-SITES, there are also information centres in most towns and even in small settlements. The friendly staff at the information centres can help you find accommodation, plan tours and activities, and give you that local insight that makes all the difference. Most bookings can be made here for you, and you can pick up maps and brochures to help you plan your visit. These centres also sometimes have souvenirs for sale and internet access.

Timaru is the largest urban area in South Canterbury and is based around its busy port and the dairy
industry. The city's most popular holiday spot is Caroline Bay, one of New Zealand's safest swimming
beaches and there are plenty of other diversions including a maze, mini golf, children's paddling
pool and playground. In town, there are plenty of recreational facilities catering for tennis, golf,
bowls, yachting and swimming. Enjoy one of the many scenic walks including the Botanic Gardens, or
take a stroll around the Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden on Caroline Bay. Take a marine cruise in
search of dolphins and other marine wildlife. A working blacksmith is available to visit in his
forge where you can hear the tales of the smith. If it is culture you are after, visit the
Aigantighe Art Gallery or the South Canterbury Museum and go back in time in the southern
hemisphere's last remaining Landing Service Building. For those with an eye for architecture, Timaru
itself is a showcase of fine Edwardian examples. For those wishing to tempt their palate, the city
boasts a number of fine restaurants catering for all budgets and tastes.
