Waikato Region: The Waikato has many interesting town to explore. These include the horse-breeding townships of Cambridge and Matamata. Matamata is also becoming known as the home of Hobbiton, because this was one of the locations for filming 'The Lord of the Rings' Trilogy. Hamilton is the commercial centre and the city's polytechnic and University of Waikato have a total of 25,000 students. There are also agricultural research centres in the city and at nearby Whatawhata.
