are perfect for tramping, where spectacular scenery abounds. Our
geothermal hotspots provide natural thermal pools, shooting geysers and
bubbling mud pools, while our incredible wildlife is a must-see for
animal lovers. There are plenty of picturesque beaches for swimming,
surfing or relaxing, mountain ranges for skiing and snowboarding, glassy
lakes for fishing and water sports, and native forests for exploring. Try
delicious gourmet delights, visit an art or craft studio, go shopping,
check out a Maori cultural performance or take advantage of our exciting
range of events. And that's just the beginning!
The magnificent Kapiti Coast stretches along the Tasman Sea from Paekakariki to Otaki with the
majestic backdrop of Kapiti Island to the west and the Tararua Ranges to the east. Visitors will
find something of interest in a range of specialty and antique shops and retail outlets that include
cafes, galleries, studios, boutiques and factory shops. Sample quality olives, candy, honey,
chocolates, cheeses and icecream from local producers and a range of local fruit and vegetables,
which are available on the numerous roadside shops. For family groups there may be found a gentle
peace and tranquillity in the nature reserves, lagoon walks, museums, farm shows, bird sanctuaries
and sun-drenched sandy beaches. The Tararua Ranges offer bush walking, tramping, 4WD biking,
white-water rafting, and kayaking. There are cycle and walking tracks and other activities including
horse riding, beaches for swimming and water-sports, fishing, flying with the aero club or golfing
on some of New Zealand's finest links.
