Dunedin has an octagon in the centre of the city. The Municipal Chambers, St Paul's Cathedral, the
Dunedin Public Art Gallery and Regent Theatre surround the Octagon, along with a number of cafes,
bars and restaurants, many with outdoor seating and live music or performance.
Dunedin Railway
Station is one of the world's most photographed stations. The station is open daily and incorporates
a restaurant, booking offices, and is the starting point for a return trip on the Taieri Gorge
Railway into rugged, spectacular scenery.
Perhaps Dunedin's most popular tour is Cadbury World
Tours - Cadbury's chocolate factory tour (1.25 hours, including free chocolate, 9am-4pm, 7 days).
The Speight's Heritage Centre also runs daily tours of the historic Speight's Brewery, a fully
working brewery (includes free tasting). There are also wildlife tours, horse trekking, an art and
craft trail - Otago Arts Roads, and garden tours.
Golf and salmon fishing are found naturally in
an area with a Scottish heritage. Sea kayaking and jet boating on the Taieri River are also
available. The waves provide ideal conditions for surfing. On windy days, the harbour is colourful
with yachts and windsurfers.
Dunedin Public Art Gallery houses one of the finest collections of art
in New Zealand. From a small international collection of 'Old Masters' to a larger assemblage of
historical and contemporary New Zealand works, the gallery has something for everyone. It runs a
variety of interesting visitor programmes and special exhibitions, and has a gift shop, an
