Are you in the mood for a holiday? I have just the solution. This time of year is great for getting out there and venturing outside of your normal holiday comfort zone. By choosing somewhere off-the-beaten-track to visit, you'll escape the crowds and find yourself surrounded by peace, tranquillity and nature. Make the most of the winter scenery while it lasts!

Discovering somewhere that you haven't been before can really awaken the adventurer inside. If you normally head north, go south. If you normally venture east, choose somewhere west. It's all about expanding your horizons. Chances are, you'll find a great new holiday spot that may even turn into a family favourite. Now is the ideal time, as there's not much more of our incredible winter scenery to be seen. Catch it before it slowly fades into spring around the beginning of September.

Exploring out-of-the-way towns is perfect if you're after a stress-free break from the pressure of city life. With no traffic, parking hassles or crowds of people, you'll be able to really relax. Sleep in and awaken to the sound of birds chirping and sunlight streaming through the curtain (or tent window!).

Make the most of everything your destination has to offer.

Small, off-the-beaten-track towns often have plenty of activities hidden away just waiting to be explored. For those interested in the great outdoors, there are bound to be plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy. Explore the wilderness on a walk or tramp, get up close and personal to wildlife on an eco-tour or find out the natural wonders in the area and check them out. There are often fantastic museums and novelty activities in off-the-beaten-track towns, so make the most of everything your destination has to offer. If all else fails, remember to pack a good book and make the most of the peace and quiet!
