It's no secret that Kiwis are drawn to water - we can't get enough of it! We all know that the summer heat can be stifling, and what better way to cool off than by hitting a beach, lake or river near you? With everything from thrilling to relaxing water-based adventures available here, if you're keen to hit the water this summer the options are endless.

Forget sunbathing, beaches are a haven for water sports. Find a beach near you with equipment for hire and try snorkelling or windsurfing, or hire a kayak and explore our magnificent coastlines. Other great options include taking surfing lessons or attempting it yourself, or joining a dive tour to discover our incredible underwater world. For an experience you won't forget, take a 'swimming with dolphins' trip and meet these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat.
Jet Boat

The more adventurous among you will be well entertained on New Zealand's rivers this summer. Don a wetsuit and experience the adrenalin-pumping action of a white-water rafting or sledging trip, or even head underground and go black-water rafting. If you'd rather not get (as) wet, there's always the jet-boat option.

If you love the water, but would prefer not to be fully immersed in it, there are also water-based options for you. Get a group of friends together and charter a yacht or a boat and cruise our picturesque harbours, or take a lake, river or ocean. From the water, you'll be treated to some of our country's most memorable scenery.

Finally, here's an option that the kids will love: a water park. Dotted around the country, water parks will keep kids amused for hours. Many have various pools ranging in size (including movie pools), exciting hydroslides, water guns and fountains, while there are often spa treatments available for mum.
