Get to know your sea legs on an ocean safari. After all, few pleasures surpass being out on the water on a gorgeous summer day enjoying the aquatic wonderland that practically sits on our doorstep. Being the island nation that New Zealand is, there's really no excuse for not bidding dry land farewell this summer!

An ocean safari can be interpreted any way you like. If you're interested in seeing New Zealand's exquisite coastline without so much as getting wet, a sightseeing cruise is the one for you. Cruises operate all around the country and vary in length, from a few hours to a few days. Awesome sights are guaranteed, and if you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of dolphins or seals.

Waiting for The Big One

If your idea of an ocean safari is to try and catch what lives beneath the surface, take a fishing trip and net your own dinner. Fishing has got to be one of New Zealand's favourite pastimes, and who can blame us – what could beat relaxing on the ocean with a rod in your hand and waiting for 'The Big One'?

Or, if New Zealand's wildlife is a big drawcard for you, an eco-tourism cruise is the perfect way to get up close and personal. Go swimming with dolphins, see whales first hand, marvel at penguins and seals and see majestic albatrosses swoop overhead - few places in the world can rival the accessible wildlife in our beautiful country, and nothing gets you closer than a cruise.

Then there are those of us who would prefer a more hands-on approach. Do away with timetables and take your own boat (or charter one) to create your own ocean safari. Oh, the freedom!

Don't worry if you're on a budget, there's an option for you. The ocean can be explored while still remaining within cooee of land - hire kayaks and explore a picturesque coastline, not forgetting the picnic lunch on board, of course. Loads of fun, and it won't break the bank!

There's no doubt about it, an ocean safari is the perfect summer activity and a good old Kiwi favourite. What are you waiting for? Get booking now!
